Mark
left, then Ron left to pursue other ventures ( never to be seen
again ) and we were joined by Nick on bass and Mr. Johnny
Guitar Oswin known to his mates as Ginge. and probably one of the
finest guitarists in Britain, Lady Luck never smiled on this hapless
fellow but could he play. Well actually no. Something always spoiled
the big moment. If it could happen to anybody, it happened to John.
Broken strings, leads, amps, straps, the lot. A man who's voice
never actually broke till he was in his twenties, but he gave us
something we never had before. What, you ask and we never found out
our selves either but he insisted it was something special. Exit
Frank the drummer due to work and enter Nick's cousin Rob. One month
and Bye Rob. Nice guy and a good drummer but.....We never did find
out why he left. Enter Gig the drummer. This was his nickname but we
all called him Frank. What a great drummer. One month later and due
to musical differences( This great young drummer was stuck in the
60's and would he move?) he left us to form several good rock bands
and become an electrician.
THE FINAL
STRAW
A drummer by
the name of Kevin auditioned. Steady, reliable, hardworking and
probably the tightest man in the universe, but we had a band and we
worked. We worked a lot and gained a great reputation. But money, as
usual was a problem. Lack of trust and a lack of commitment began to
show itself. It became hard work. Nick was a rock. Always there to
help. Always dependable. So honest and straight. John was suffering
his yearly menopause and Kev? Well Kev was just Kev. At the very
conception of the band was a young lady who really helped me
with almost everything. She lugged like a bloke and swore like a
bloke and now she liked to fight John on a regular basis. Just a bit
of tension, but she was great on a sound mixer and gave us great
sound and gave me the will to carry on. She earned
next to nowt but to one or two of the others, it meant an extra quid
each if we sacked her. But who would help me then? Nick of course
but she had become more than just a friend. She was beautiful and could
she sing. No, is the word that springs to mind but a band meeting
was called and a vote was held. Marie was in or out. 2-2 a draw .
"Well if she stays we're off " came the reply. "You
can't do without us" Well, lads we did, and very well thank
you.
TRYX the trio.
Roland was brought
in to provide drums and extra sounds. Marie did her mixing from the
stage and started her apprenticeship in stagecraft armed with only a
short skirt and a tambourine. People didn't seem to hear her but
they noticed those legs and they didn't care. The music was good and
at the first club ( GEC WILLENS) they were up dancing straight away.
We had done it! We have always entertained well and this is why we
have been so popular. We had many good years together but Nick was
then offered the chance to work in France. He was packing in. We
were distraught. He was our best friend. We were together all the
time. The New Years Eve at the Wyken was to be his last night.
MR. MIGRAINE
He had been with
us for a couple of years helping since he was 15. A good lad.
"Would you like to come on stage with us when Nick
leaves." I knew the answer to that one. Here was a quiet lad.
He could play keyboards, he could play drums, he could even sing a
bit but, more importantly, he enjoyed himself on stage. Always
laughing and never a bad word. Too good to be true? Yes I guess so.
But for the next 8 years we had some fun and didn't he come out of
his shell. All things come to an end and when he wanted to become a
DJ we could only wish him good luck. Just a couple of appearances
with us on the holiday camps makes me remember the good times we
had. Thanks Scotty and always a friend.
TRYX the duo
Well, here we are,
the year 2001,the final line up and the one you will see working
now. Marie is now an excellent vocalist. 2 children on and she still
looks great. And those legs. Me, well I do my best and I guess I
don't act much like my years.( 38 ) The stage is still a great buzz
for me but oh, how things have changed. The clubs struggle to
survive and I can only hope they see me out. By the way, for the
doubters, I don't mime, I'm just a bloody good guitarist.
NOTE:
Nick remains my best mate and God father to our 2 girls and
works with us when we need a trio. Scotty comes around occasionally
and there will always be a job for him. Johnny Oswin is probably the
best guitar teacher in Britain and a good friend. The others? I
don't know.
